Role SummaryThe Computer Science For All initiative focuses on enhancing computer science education through a near-peer mentorship model, emphasizing project-based learning in mathematics.
As a College STEM Literacy Worker (CSLW), you will play a pivotal role in this initiative, working alongside YPP and Bootstrap staff to become proficient educators in integrated computer science through the Bootstrap Algebra curriculum.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with educators to facilitate professional development sessions.
- Supporting 9th and 10th grade math teachers in delivering engaging content related to the Bootstrap Algebra module.
- Creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters respect and engagement.
- Building strong professional relationships with students, teachers, and YPP staff.
- Encouraging students to develop essential skills such as problem-solving, communication, and teamwork.
- Ability to effectively teach and co-lead a classroom of students in STEM subjects.
- Familiarity with coding and research methodologies.
- Open-mindedness to diverse problem-solving approaches.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to present curriculum effectively.
- Demonstrated patience and professionalism in all interactions.
- Genuine interest in the well-being and success of all students.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the capacity to work independently within a multidisciplinary team.
- Awareness of the challenges faced by students in educational settings.
- Commitment to YPP's mission and understanding of its history and objectives.
- Ability to track student progress and document areas for improvement.
- Resident of the Boston area.
- Aged between 19-25 or currently enrolled in a Boston area college/university with a focus on STEM.
- Experience with any programming language.
- Comfortable with delivering presentations and instructing in urban educational environments.
- Willingness to embrace innovative teaching methodologies.
- Passion for design, implementation, and continuous improvement.
- Part-time position.
- Compensation at $17 per hour.
