Job Summary:

The Certified Ophthalmic Assistant plays a vital role in the success of our ophthalmology team. As a skilled professional, you will work closely with ophthalmologists to prepare patients for examination and assist with various procedures. Your advanced knowledge and expertise will enable you to provide exceptional patient care and support the team with complicated procedures.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare patients for examination and assist ophthalmologists with various procedures
  • Apply advanced knowledge to basic principles of ophthalmic patient care
  • Perform tonometry, keratometry, BAT, PAM, VFD, CFD, Pachymetry, OPD, OCT, and IOL Master skills
  • Knowledge of retinoscopy, A-Scan, contact lenses, fundus photography, and external photos
  • Perform other duties as needed
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Current national certification or equivalent competency required within ninety (90) days of hire
  • Minimum one year ophthalmic back office experience required
Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work calmly and respond courteously under pressure
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Basic math functions and ability to manage multiple assignments effectively
Licensures and Certifications:

Successful completion of certification process through JCAHPO or satisfactory completion of Loma Linda Ophthalmology Departmental skills checklist completion required within ninety (90) days of hire.
