Position: Facilities Maintenance Specialist
Organization: Chicago Youth Centers (CYC)
Compensation: $18-20 per hour
Employment Type: Full Time; Non-Exempt
Reporting To: Childcare Director/Center Director
Location: CYC Sidney Epstein Center
Work Schedule: 10:30 AM - 7:00 PM; Monday - Friday; schedule may vary based on program requirements
Role Purpose: The Facilities Maintenance Specialist is responsible for the thorough cleaning and upkeep of designated facilities and grounds, executing tasks as assigned by the Childcare Director or Center Director.
Key Responsibilities:
Daily Cleaning Duties:
- Dust and sanitize furniture; dispose of waste properly
- Sweep, mop, and disinfect floors; vacuum carpets
- Sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and mirrors
- Ensure soap, paper towels, and tissue dispensers are stocked
- Replace light bulbs as needed
- Maintain cleanliness of baseboards, vents, and light fixtures
- Perform floor maintenance, including stripping, buffing, and applying finishes
- Conduct spot cleaning of walls
- Clear snow and ice from walkways and entry points
- Report any maintenance needs for facilities or equipment
Driving Responsibilities:
- Transport youth from local schools to the center during the academic year
- Collaborate with the Program Manager to develop a transportation schedule
- Establish and maintain relationships with school staff
- Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of transportation vehicles
- Monitor vehicles for routine and emergency maintenance
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 1-2 years of relevant experience in cleaning and maintenance
- Valid Illinois driver’s license
- Successful completion of DMV and background checks
- Ability to use ladders safely
- Willingness to travel between various CYC locations
- Familiarity with cleaning products and equipment
- Basic computer skills
- Bilingual skills (Spanish-speaking) are a plus
- Knowledge of health, fire, and safety regulations
