Job SummaryThe Clinical Technician provides direct patient care under the direction of a nurse and performs various tasks necessary for unit operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Deliver patient care, assist, and reinforce as directed by licensed professionals.
- Manage multiple patient care assignments based on unit acuity and staffing levels.
- Receive report from primary care partner and complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Instruct and/or reinforce patient care activities under direction of licensed professional.
- Respond timely to patient requests and communicate with caregivers as needed.
- Recognize and perform emergency measures, including CPR when indicated.
- Maintain annual competency with patient-specific procedures.
- Enter timely and accurate documentation into the electronic medical record.
- Report pertinent patient changes and/or clinical findings to primary care partner.
- Collect, label, and deliver specimens to the lab, as directed by care partner, utilizing Universal Precautions.
- Provide adjunct care, including administering enemas, surgical preps, ice packs, and heat treatments.
- Assist with repositioning immobile patients, using medical equipment.
- Monitor food and water intake and output.
- Assist with applying simple dressings, utilizing aseptic technique.
- Accurately perform glucometer finger stick and POCT.
- Assist clinicians or public safety with applying restraints when applicable for violent/combative patients.
- Transport patients to other areas of the hospital as needed.
- Act as a patient sitter or telemetry monitor technician when required.
- Minimum of High School diploma or GED required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- Must satisfy one of the following:
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with current State of Florida licensure.
- RN Student with completed nursing fundamentals or caring scholar course and actively enrolled in an RN Nursing program.
- Graduate of an RN program pending authorization to test for the NCLEX or has not passed the first NCLEX and awaiting the second test.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with current valid Florida Licensure and work experience required.
- Basic computer knowledge: ability to operate a PC, create/save/print documents, input data.
