Position Summary
The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner delivers specialized nursing care and medical support to infants, children, and adolescents within a clinical environment. Operating under established protocols and collaborative care plans, this role is integral to a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) team, requiring familiarity with its philosophy and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive primary health and well-child care in accordance with established clinical guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Pediatric Lead Physician for the management of complex cases.
- Conduct patient triage and communicate assessments effectively with parents or guardians.
- Perform thorough initial and ongoing assessments during patient encounters to ensure high-quality care.
- Meet productivity standards by managing an adequate patient load.
- Accurately code patient visits for appropriate billing.
- Contribute to policy development related to patient care in the clinic.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with patients of varying ages and their families.
- Participate in compliance programs and adhere to all relevant state and federal regulations.
- Execute additional duties as assigned for operational efficiency.
Patient-Centered Care Responsibilities
- Engage families in care planning and treatment discussions.
- Assess and provide age-appropriate care based on individual patient needs.
- Review and document health histories, physical examinations, and psychosocial factors to inform risk assessments.
- Understand child development to assess behaviors related to health conditions.
- Utilize effective communication strategies with young patients, including nonverbal cues.
- Provide reassurance and support to alleviate anxiety in both children and their parents during medical procedures.
Supervisory Role
This position does not include formal supervisory responsibilities but may involve guiding clinical support staff as directed.

Qualifications
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Master's degree in pediatric nursing or equivalent experience required; prior experience as an RN in acute or ambulatory care is preferred.
- Proficiency with clinical equipment and electronic medical records.
- Current RN and Pediatric NP licenses in Texas, along with necessary certifications.
Physical and Work Environment
This role requires the ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds. The work environment may expose employees to various health risks, necessitating adherence to safety protocols.
