Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Tooling Technician to join our team at Shiloh Industries. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining dies in a production-ready status, ensuring quality stampings, and performing various tasks related to metalworking and fabrication.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, and fit and assemble parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs, and fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools.
  • Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualize the product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
  • Compute dimensions, plan layout, and determine assembly method and sequence of operations.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining.
  • Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders to machine parts and verify conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • Lift machined parts and position and secure parts on a surface plate or work table.
  • Smooth flat and contoured surfaces and power grinders, fit and assemble parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances, as well as heat treat tools or parts.
  • Develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draw or sketch the design of the product.
  • Complete preventive maintenance work assignments, including work orders.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree from a two-year college or technical school.
  • 5 years of experience in the field and Journeyman's Certification.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Advanced mathematical concepts such as trigonometry, exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks such as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factory analysis.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Work Environment
  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
