Job Title: Transportation Professional

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transportation Professional to join our team at Osnaburg Local School District. As a Substitute Bus Driver, you will be responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation to our students.

Job Summary:

The Transportation Professional will operate a school bus, transporting students to and from school, as well as on field trips. This is a classified substitute position, which means you will be working on an as-needed basis to cover absences or vacancies in our transportation department.

Responsibilities:
  • Operate a school bus safely and efficiently, adhering to all motor vehicle laws and regulations.
  • Transport students to and from school, as well as on field trips, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Uphold all board policies and administrative procedures, maintaining a positive and professional attitude at all times.
  • Practice defensive driving techniques, maintaining established routes and time schedules.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, checking fire, emergency equipment, and first aid supplies.
  • Offer assistance to students when needed, supervising bus loading and unloading procedures.
  • Inspect harnesses, restraints, and other safety devices, immediately correcting or reporting any unsafe conditions or defective equipment.
  • Anticipate and prepare to provide assistance to students with medical or other health considerations.
  • Monitor student behavior, enforcing safety regulations and maintaining high standards.
  • Report any student discipline problems, vandalism, or other related concerns to the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Respect personal privacy, maintaining confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Participate in the district's bus safety program, conducting emergency evacuation drills and reporting equipment malfunctions.
  • Fuel the vehicle, maintaining fluid levels, and documenting fuel consumption and mileage.
  • Enforce authorized bus rules and procedures during field trips, remaining available to staff and students as instructed.
  • Participate in training necessary to maintain a school bus driver license.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities as directed.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with a school bus endorsement.
  • Meets all mandated health requirements, including a negative tuberculosis test and annual physical.
  • A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
  • Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
  • Meets qualifications defined in the current Ohio Revised Code, Ohio Pupil Transportation Operation & Safety Rules, and school board policy.
  • Completion of the Ohio Pre-Service School Bus Driver Training Program.
  • Satisfactory pre-employment and ongoing random drug tests results.
  • Ability to assist students with disabilities.
  • Ability to cope with stressful traffic, weather conditions, and passenger distractions.
  • Demonstrates maturity and the ability to work with students and their families.
Working Conditions:

  • Duties may require traveling to meetings and work assignments.

  • Duties may require working extended hours.
  • Duties may require working under time constraints to meet deadlines.
  • Potential for exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
  • Potential for exposure to air-borne particulates, chemical irritants, combustible materials, electrical hazards, equipment vibrations, noises, and odors.
  • Potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
  • Potential for interaction with aggressive, disruptive, and/or unruly individuals.
