Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, Flexible Hours. Typical routes operate in the morning and afternoon, requiring flexibility.

Position Summary:

The Driver is tasked with delivering safe and dependable transportation services, facilitating travel from individuals' residences to day programs in the morning and returning them home in the afternoon. Supervision is provided by the Transportation management team. Drivers will be assigned specific routes but must be adaptable to drive various routes and operate different types of vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely operates all agency vehicles in compliance with Connecticut state laws and regulations.
  • Transports individuals using agency vehicles (minibus, van, or minivan) as directed by the Transportation Coordinator or Assistant.
  • Demonstrates the ability to drive multiple routes as required.
  • Loads and secures individuals in wheelchairs following agency protocols.
  • Utilizes agency-provided credit cards for fueling vehicles as necessary.
  • Accurately completes route sheets and records drop-off times in line with agency policies.
  • Ensures that all individuals are safely dropped off at their homes, providing proper supervision when needed.
  • Maintains a safe and hazard-free vehicle, conducting inspections and reporting maintenance needs.
  • Assists in transporting agency vehicles to and from garages for maintenance and repairs.
  • Reports any concerns or unusual behavior observed in individuals during transport to the Transportation Coordinator or Assistant.
  • Completes all required reports (e.g., incident or accident reports) promptly and accurately.
  • Participates in all designated training courses and keeps certifications up to date.
  • Undertakes additional tasks as assigned by the Transportation Coordinator or Assistant.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • At least 5 years of driving experience.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record, eligible for insurance coverage.
  • Completion of Rideshare application with no DUI or DWI convictions.
  • Ability to obtain a State of Connecticut Public Passenger Endorsement.
  • Proficient in using GPS for navigation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage issues and delays professionally.
  • Maintain all required training, including driver safety, First Aid, CPR, and physical restraint training.

Physical Requirements:

Must be physically capable of fulfilling all job responsibilities, including:

  • Bending, stooping, standing, pushing, and pulling.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs safely.
  • Assisting participants in and out of vehicles as necessary.
  • Handling wheelchair loading and securing.
  • Responding quickly during roadside emergencies and assisting individuals as needed.
  • Ensuring vehicles are clear of snow and ice during inclement weather.
