The County of Gaston is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment and vehicles, ensuring they are in good working condition and meet safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, lubrication, and inspections to prevent equipment breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.
• Conduct repairs and replacements of parts and components as needed, using manuals and technical guides for reference.
• Order and manage inventory of parts and supplies, ensuring timely delivery and availability.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless equipment operation and minimize downtime.
Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent required; ASE certification preferred.
• At least two years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair, with a focus on safety and efficiency.
• Valid driver's license required.
Working Conditions
• Daily involvement with work that involves a chance of major injury or loss of life and prolonged exposure to hazardous working conditions or severe weather conditions.
• Exposure to unfavorable health or safety conditions is constantly present.
• Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds is required.
