Essential Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner / Advanced Practice Nurse

Educational Background: Completion of a Nurse Practitioner program accredited by the State of Texas; a Master's degree is mandatory.

Licenses and Certifications:

Authorized to practice professional nursing in Texas. APRN licensure in Texas with eligibility for comprehensive prescriptive authority; may include specialties such as CRNA, CNM, CNS, CNP. National certification recognized by the Texas State Board in the relevant population focus and/or additional specialty acknowledgment beyond the APRN. Eligibility for DEA registration. Basic or Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.

Physician Assistant

Educational Background: Graduate of a nationally accredited Physician Assistant program; a Master's degree is highly preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:

Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners. Eligibility for DEA registration. Basic or Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

Preferred two (2) years of clinical experience in the relevant practice area.

Key Responsibilities

Engages in health promotion and the assessment, diagnosis, and management of patient issues, including the application and prescription of both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient and family needs throughout the disease continuum as part of an interdisciplinary team, tailored to the age and needs of the patient population. For prescriptive authority, the APRN or PA operates under the supervision of a designated physician, maintaining an active Prescriptive Authority agreement in line with regulations and policies. Adheres to established protocols, guidelines, clinical pathways, and evidence-based practices. Gathers medical histories; conducts physical examinations; reviews, orders, and interprets diagnostic tests and imaging results; formulates and manages patient treatment plans and outcomes; provides interventions and performs procedures within the legal scope and authority for which the APRN or PA is credentialed, including but not limited to incision and drainage, pelvic examinations, lesion removal/destruction, suturing, and casting/splinting. Collaborates in the development and assessment of patient care; updates clinical guidelines, protocols, and pathways; works independently and takes responsibility for outcomes; signs orders in accordance with institutional and state board regulations; collaborates in research and educational initiatives and applies research findings to practice. Utilizes effective interpersonal and communication skills to educate patients and families on care resources; participates in process improvement and multidisciplinary clinical outcome enhancement activities leveraging advanced nursing expertise. Ensures the safety of patients, staff, and visitors; complies with all organizational policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary constraints, including time management, supply management, productivity, and quality of service. Fosters personal professional growth and development by fulfilling requirements for mandatory and continuing education and skills competency; supports departmental goals that contribute to the organization's success; serves as a preceptor, mentor, and resource for less experienced staff. Demonstrates a commitment to serving every member of the community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Embodies the organization's service standards by delivering safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues. Performs other duties as assigned.
