Job Title: RN - Ambulatory Surgery Center Operating Room Nurse

Join our team at The Ambulatory Surgery Center at St. Mary as a Per Diem Operating Room Circulating RN. We are seeking a skilled and experienced RN to join our team in the Operating Room.

Job Summary:

The RN - Ambulatory Surgery Center Operating Room Nurse will be responsible for delivering safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the OR and other areas of perioperative services for all patient populations.

Responsibilities:
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Assess patients at intervals as stated in policies and procedures.
  • Develop an individualized perioperative patient plan of care.
  • Implement the plan of care by protecting the patient from injury caused by chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical, and thermal sources and extraneous objects.
  • Perform counting procedures to protect the patient from unintended retained surgical items.
  • Perform interventions necessary to ensure that the patient's procedure is performed on the correct site, side, and level.
  • Manage the patient's specimens in the appropriate manner.
  • Communicate the patient's current status to the appropriate parties throughout the continuum of care.
  • Administer medications safely and correctly.
  • Perform interventions to maintain the patient's wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels.
  • Perform interventions to maintain the status of the patient's genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological systems and fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balances at or above baseline levels.
  • Perform interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period.
  • Perform interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection.
  • Assess the knowledge level of the patient or designated support person.
  • Provide education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure.
  • Actively involve the patient or designated support person in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process.
  • Protect the patient's rights, dignity, and privacy.
  • Provide culturally and age-appropriate, ethical care within legal standards of practice.
  • Provide consistent and comparable care regardless of the setting.
  • Evaluate the patient's progress toward attaining outcomes.
  • Transfer care as appropriate.
  • Delegate tasks as appropriate according to the state Nurse Practice Act and job descriptions.
  • Document nursing care accurately, completely, and legibly.
  • Collaborate effectively with other disciplines as appropriate.
  • Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.
  • Participate in the performance appraisal process.
  • Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members.
  • Maintain required competencies.
  • Pursue professional growth and participate in a professional organization.
  • Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of all appropriate information.
Education/Licensure/Certification:
  • Degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program.
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current registered nurse licensure in state Pennsylvania.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum one year of Operating Room experience, preferably in an ASC setting.
  • Certified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR) certification preferred but not required.
  • Basic computer skills (ex. Microsoft Word).
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions.
  • Pushing and pulling heavy objects.
  • Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients.
  • Manual and finger dexterity.
  • Hand and eye coordination.
  • Standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range.
  • Working under stressful conditions.
