Job Summary

The Pharmacy Intern plays a vital role in the drug distribution system, working closely with pharmacists to provide clinical services to patients in their assigned area. This position requires direct supervision by a licensed pharmacist, as mandated by Michigan law.

Key Responsibilities
  • Dispense unit dose, intravenous admixtures, and other pharmaceuticals for subsequent administration to patients.
  • Interpret physician medication orders and clarify any unclear orders.
  • Identify and monitor the pharmaceutical needs of patients.
  • Review patient charts and/or interview the patient, physician, or nurse to obtain information for medication records and profiles.
  • Review drug-related information to identify potential problems regarding drug therapy and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Provide drug and poison information for patients, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Requirements
  • Must be enrolled or a graduate from a school or college of Pharmacy.
  • Must be licensed as a Pharmacy Intern by the Michigan Board of Pharmacy.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and courteously with patients, physicians, nurses, and other HFH staff.
  • Must possess a pleasant personality, be able to relate to and work with professional and technical staff recognizing the hybrid nature of this position.
