The following duties are essential to the position, though additional tasks may be assigned as necessary:

  1. Retrieve production schedules or shipping orders to transport materials or equipment to designated areas within the facility.
  2. Recognize various types of raw materials, in-process items, or finished products. Verify material identification against production or shipping schedules and relocate items accordingly. Report any discrepancies to the supervisor.
  3. Acquaint oneself with the operational capacity of machinery or the shipping schedule to ensure timely delivery of necessary items, preventing equipment downtime.
  4. Maintain a tally of products moved and communicate this information to the production planning department.
  5. Remove empty pallets or skids and organize them in the designated area.
  6. Conduct preventive maintenance on the forklift, including changing propane tanks or batteries, and performing oil and water changes. Report any mechanical or electrical issues to the supervisor.
  7. Utilize additional equipment as required.
  8. Handle and dispose of scrap materials as necessary.
  9. Ensure work areas are kept clean and organized, adhering to safety protocols.
  10. Perform other duties as requested and participate in project teams when necessary.

Organizational Relationships:
This position reports to the Division Manager, Plant Manager, and Production Supervisor.

Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Pass the forklift driver competency test.
  • Possess a valid state motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Exhibit a high level of attention to prevent injuries to others.

Skills and Knowledge:
Candidates should demonstrate the following abilities:

  • Reading/Writing: Ability to comprehend written material and accurately record information.
  • Basic Math: Proficiency in basic arithmetic operations and the ability to count items within a group.

Physical Demands:
The physical requirements for this position include:

  • Frequent sitting, walking, and movement, with repetitive foot action. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be required.
  • Medium to heavy lifting, with a maximum weight of 80 lbs. and average lifting of 40 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities including close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Repetitive hand action requiring a firm grasp with grip strength of approximately 45-60 lbs.

Work Environment:
The work environment may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibrations. The noise level is typically loud.
