About the Role

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our General Oncology Unit. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.

Responsibilities
  • Room patients and families to exam/procedure areas, ensuring a smooth and efficient flow of patients.
  • Document vital signs and other patient information accurately and efficiently, adhering to clinic policies and procedures.
  • Assist with procedures as directed by healthcare providers, demonstrating a high level of competence and attention to detail.
  • Conduct clerical tasks, patient transport, cleaning, and restocking of exam rooms to maintain a clean and organized environment.
  • Recognize symptoms of common medical illnesses, abnormal vital signs, and new/existing pain, and immediately escalate to RNs and/or providers.
  • Perform blood draws as directed, adhering to strict protocols and guidelines.
Customer Service
  • Act as a liaison between patients/families and healthcare providers, ensuring clear communication and resolution of concerns.
Qualifications
  • Education enabling obtainment of Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Completion of a medical assistant program offered by a school accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
  • Military training or experience may also satisfy the training and experience requirement.
  • Certified Medical Assistant in the State of Washington and must be familiar with the State's conduct and standards of practice.
  • Interim Certified Medical Assistant in the State of Washington and must be familiar with the state's conduct and standards of practice.
  • Surgical Technologist Registration in the State of Washington State and must be familiar with the State's conduct and standards of practice (Application must be submitted within 1st 30-days of hire).
  • Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years.
  • Proficient in email and word processing systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, complex healthcare environment.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and problem-solve.
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) in a clear and concise manner.
