Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Breastfeeding Specialist to join our team at Northern Arizona Healthcare Corporation. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care and support to breastfeeding mothers and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care and Education
    • Conduct thorough assessments of patients seeking breastfeeding expertise
    • Implement personalized care plans to meet the unique needs of each patient
    • Prioritize and problem-solve to address changes in patient status or condition
    • Utilize pain scales to assess and address pain
    • Implement provider orders related to breastfeeding services
    • Participate in follow-up services and patient education
    • Provide family-centered care and demonstrate ability to travel to other departments
    • Deliver breastfeeding education and support skills to families, staff, and providers
    • Respond to RN requests for inpatient consultation
    • Direct and deliver breastfeeding services and supplies
    • Develop patient plans of care for breastfeeding mothers
    • Assist with and/or perform procedures
  • Communication and Documentation
    • Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses
    • Communicate and document patient/family learning needs
    • Document interventions and patient response to interventions and any changes in patient condition/status
    • Communicate patient information to providers
  • Administrative
    • Complete evaluations of services and program goals
    • Make referrals
    • Lease supplies and equipment
    • Assist in data collection
  • Collaboration
    • Involves perinatal social workers in designated patient populations
    • Works with providers and staff to enhance their skills and understanding of the program
  • Education
    • Participates in creating and sustaining a learning environment supported by evidence-based practice and research
    • Focuses on personal development areas, engaging in professional/collegial interactions with peers and students
    • Works collaboratively with peers and other healthcare providers, participating in ongoing in-service and educational seminars
    • Participates in mentoring and education of colleagues and students
  • Compliance and Safety
    • Responsible for reporting any safety-related incidents in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool
    • Attends all safety-related training programs
    • Performs work in a safe manner
    • Monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner
    • Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility
    • Ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates
    • Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame
    • Maintains knowledge of Breastfeeding Center protocols and all practice guidelines/general operating practices
Qualifications
  • Education
    • High School Diploma or GED - Required
    • Bachelor's Degree - Preferred
  • Certification and Licensures
    • National Certification as IBCLC - Required
    • BLS (American Heart Association) - Required
  • Experience
    • Hands-on experience supporting and educating breastfeeding women - Required
    • Evaluation of Services experience - Required
    • Program Development - Preferred
    • Bilingual - Preferred
