Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at VCU Health. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our ophthalmology team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for ophthalmology examinations by dilating pupils, changing visual acuity, and communicating results to the attending physician.
  • Perform complete ophthalmic history and preliminary exams, sub-specialty testing, and maintain equipment to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Counsel patients on the use of drops, contact lenses, and other eye care-related topics.
  • Assist physicians during minor surgical and laser procedures, and maintain a safe and secure work environment.
  • Accurately record patient information in the EMR system and maintain confidentiality.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Ophthalmic Assistant Program or Certified Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  • Minimum one year of work experience in optometric/ophthalmology performing initial examinations and diagnostic testing.
  • Ability to work at alternative VCU Health locations as needed.
