VCU Health is seeking dedicated and skilled individuals to join our ophthalmology team as Ophthalmic Technicians. As a key member of our clinical support team, you will work closely with our physicians and patients to provide exceptional care and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide primary ophthalmic care and assist physicians with clinical procedures
  • Verify patient information and conduct thorough ophthalmic histories and exams
  • Accurately record patient data in our electronic medical record system
  • Counsel patients on physician-ordered treatments and procedures
  • Maintain equipment and ensure a safe and efficient work environment

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Ophthalmic Medical Assisting Course within 12 months
  • Obtain Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification within 24 months of hire date

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year of experience in optometric or ophthalmic care
  • Preferred certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work at multiple office locations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Physical Demands:

  • Lifting 20-50 pounds
  • Prolonged standing and walking
  • Strong recall, reasoning, and problem-solving skills
