Visual Journalism Knight Chair

The University of Georgia's College of Journalism and Mass Communication is seeking a full-time, tenured faculty member at the rank of associate professor or professor to fulfill the role of Knight Chair in Visual Journalism.
Role Responsibilities:The Knight Chair will be instrumental in fostering and enhancing connections within the realm of visual journalism, both within the college and in collaboration with industry professionals. This position aims to elevate the college's visibility and reputation in the field of visual journalism.
Teaching Duties:The Knight Chair will be responsible for developing and delivering courses focused on leadership, management, and entrepreneurship in visual journalism. The faculty member will teach at least one undergraduate course each semester, with the potential for graduate-level instruction.
Qualifications:Applicants must possess a substantial background in photo or video journalism, with a strong emphasis on multimedia publishing. Candidates should demonstrate:
- Proven success in producing impactful visual journalism in collaborative settings.
- Experience in mentoring and developing visual storytellers.
- Knowledge of ethical standards in visual journalism.
- Proficiency with a variety of tools essential for creating compelling visual content.
- Awareness of emerging technologies and industry trends affecting visual storytelling.
- Experience with modern workflows in visual journalism.
- An understanding of the business aspects of visual journalism, including contracts and brand development.
- Experience in budget development and management for visual projects.
For candidates holding a master's degree without a terminal degree, exceptional professional accomplishments must be documented and approved prior to hiring.
Preferred Qualifications:It is preferred that candidates have experience leading visual storytelling teams and projects, as well as producing visual narratives for diverse audiences. Additionally, experience in coaching and developing visual storytellers from underrepresented backgrounds is highly regarded.
Skills and Competencies:Familiarity with grant writing and the ability to cultivate partnerships between news organizations and trade associations is also preferred.
