Visual Journalism Knight Chair

The University of Georgia's College of Journalism and Mass Communication is seeking applications for a full-time, tenured faculty role at the rank of associate professor or professor, designated as the Knight Chair in Visual Journalism.
Role Responsibilities:The Knight Chair will be instrumental in fostering and enhancing connections within the realm of visual journalism, both within the college and with industry partners. This position aims to elevate the college's visibility in the field of visual journalism.
Teaching Duties:The Knight Chair will be responsible for developing and delivering courses focused on leadership, management, and entrepreneurship in visual journalism. The role includes teaching at least one undergraduate course per semester, with the potential for graduate-level instruction.
Qualifications:Applicants must possess a master's degree or higher (e.g., terminal degree such as an MFA or PhD). A significant background in photo or video journalism, particularly in multimedia publishing, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate:
- Proven success in producing impactful visual journalism within collaborative settings.
- Experience in mentoring and developing visual storytellers.
- Knowledge of ethical standards in visual journalism.
- Proficiency with various tools necessary for creating compelling visual content.
- Awareness of emerging technologies and industry trends affecting visual storytelling.
- Experience with modern workflows in visual journalism.
- An understanding of the business aspects of visual journalism, including contracts and copyright.
- Experience in budgeting for visual projects.
For candidates holding a master's degree without a terminal degree, exceptional professional achievements must be documented and approved prior to hiring.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in leading visual storytelling teams and producing diverse visual narratives is preferred. Familiarity with grant writing and establishing partnerships with news organizations and trade associations is also advantageous.
