Job Summary:

As a Paramedic with SSM Health, you will collaborate with a team to provide exceptional care during the transport of acute or critically ill/injured patients. Your clinical assessment and critical thinking skills will guide the team's care, ensuring the best possible outcomes for patients.

Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Provide emergency medical care for patients suffering from acute medical illness or traumatic injury.
  • Identify and intervene to stabilize patients based on department-approved protocols.
  • Maintain thorough patient care documentation, including forms for legal and billing purposes.
  • Inspect, operate, maintain, and care for emergency department/hospital equipment to ensure safety.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition and treatment to receiving treatment teams.
  • Demonstrate and maintain knowledge and skills necessary to care for patient groups, including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
  • Collaborate with other emergency response agencies.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience.
  • No experience required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, reaching, and keyboard use/data entry.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
  • Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds, and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Occasional driving.
  • Rare crawling and running.

Required Professional Licenses and Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Paramedic - Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) - American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT) - Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) - American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Drivers License - State of Oklahoma.
  • Paramedic - Oklahoma State Department of Health.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Paramedic - National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).
  • Driving Record - Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
