About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Surgical Technologist II to join our team at UNC Health. As a key member of our perioperative team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective conduct of surgical procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Assist surgeons and registered nurses in the operating room, maintaining a sterile environment and ensuring proper equipment function.
  • Prepare and maintain surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment, adhering to aseptic technique and hospital policies.
  • Participate in the planning and setup of instruments, supplies, and surgical drapes, ensuring optimal accessibility during procedures.
  • Assist in the identification, preparation, handling, and labeling of surgical specimens.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to develop modifications to standard approaches to care, responding to surgical emergencies and following hospital-wide emergency management plans.
  • Inventory, receive, and store supplies under the direction of Surgical Services leadership.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for new hires, on-the-job trainees, and other teammates, participating in teaching, guiding, and evaluating the performance of peers.
  • Identify and report defective instruments, supplies, and equipment, assisting with restocking operating/procedure rooms and sub-sterile areas.
  • Assist the registered nurse during the intraoperative implementation phase of nursing practice.
  • Participate in data collection for research projects under the direction of an RN.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing Program, or Military Training Program in Surgical Technology
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or Tech in Surgery (TS-C) through The National Center of Competency Testing
  • 3+ years of professional experience
