Cytotechnologist Position

At Altru Health, we are seeking a skilled Cytotechnologist to join our team of dedicated healthcare professionals. This is a full-time position that offers a competitive salary range of $38,500 - $58,800 per year, depending on experience.
Job SummaryThe Cytotechnologist will be responsible for detecting, differentiating, and diagnosing the presence or absence of disease in gynecological and non-gynecological samples. This position assists the Pathologist with various fine needle aspirates.
Key Responsibilities- Perform microscopic examination on gynecological and non-gynecological specimens, differentiating and identifying all cells on the slides using established cytologic criteria.
- Detect, select, and clearly mark cells most representative of pathological processes present and prepare a provisional diagnosis for all gynecological and non-gynecological cases referred to the cytology supervisor or pathologist.
- Interpret acceptability of specimens received for testing, communicate correct specimen collection, transport requirements, and specimen unacceptability issues to appropriate caregivers in a timely manner ensuring that documentation is completed according to standard operating procedure.
- Assist in the collection of Fine Needle Aspirates following standard operating procedure.
- Exercise initiative and judgment in investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving QC failure, inform next level of authority as necessary, and document all actions taken. Utilize available technologies to record and retrieve data in the daily workflow.
- Prepare a final diagnosis using established cytologic terminology for gynecologic specimens reported as within normal limits.
- Perform accessioning, routine staining, and coverslipping of cytologic slides.
- Maintain clear and concise specimen identification throughout the entire analytical process.
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
- A minimum of 1 year of related experience.
- Meets CLIA education and experience standards for Cytotechnologist.
- Obtains Cytotechnologist (CT) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 12 months of start date.
This is a sedentary position that requires continuous sitting, handling/finger/feel, seeing, and hearing. The employee may occasionally stand, walk, stoop/bend, reach, twist, or squat/crouch/kneel. The work environment is primarily indoors with occasional outdoor exposure not expected.
Driving RequirementThis position does not require frequent driving. However, occasional driving may be required for work-related purposes.
