Altru Health seeks a skilled Cytotechnologist to join our team. This is a full-time position offering a competitive salary range of $40,200 - $60,400 per year, based on experience.
Job OverviewThe Cytotechnologist will analyze gynecological and non-gynecological samples, detecting and differentiating disease-causing cells. This role supports the Pathologist in tasks such as fine needle aspirations.
Main Responsibilities- Examine gynecological and non-gynecological specimens under a microscope, differentiating and identifying cells using established cytologic criteria.
- Determine cells representing pathological processes and prepare a provisional diagnosis for review by the cytology supervisor or pathologist.
- Evaluate specimen acceptability, communicate collection and transport requirements, and resolve specimen unacceptability issues in a timely manner.
- Participate in the collection of Fine Needle Aspirates according to standard procedures.
- Investigate and troubleshoot quality control failures, documenting actions taken and informing next-level authorities as necessary.
- Prepare final diagnoses using established cytologic terminology for specimens reported as normal.
- Perform accessioning, staining, and coverslipping of cytologic slides.
- Ensure clear and concise specimen identification throughout the analytical process.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned or required to meet departmental needs.
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following qualifications:
- A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
- Meet CLIA education and experience standards for Cytotechnologist.
- Obtain Cytotechnologist (CT) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 12 months of start date.
This is a sedentary position requiring continuous sitting, handling, feeling, seeing, and hearing. Occasional standing, walking, stooping, reaching, twisting, or squatting may be required. The work environment is primarily indoor with occasional outdoor exposure not expected. This position does not require frequent driving; however, occasional driving may be necessary for work-related purposes.
