Department Overview: The Tree Improvement Cooperative at North Carolina State University is dedicated to the genetic advancement of southern pine species. The Longleaf Pine Genetic Enhancement Program represents a pioneering effort within the Cooperative aimed at optimizing tree breeding practices and overall efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and catalog current longleaf pine genetic assets
  • Formulate a genetic resource strategy with input from stakeholders
  • Conduct selections within the experimental trials
  • Oversee the collection of scions and the creation of genetic repositories

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a relevant discipline
  • Experience in progeny and provenance testing as well as grafting techniques
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Exceptional communication and collaborative skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
  • Capability to lift weights up to 60 pounds

Desirable Skills: Familiarity with GIS, SQL, and R programming

Licensure/Certification: Not applicable

Driver's License Requirement: Necessary

Employment Type: EHRA Non-Faculty

Appointment Duration: 12 Month Recurring
