PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching and Student Engagement: Instruct students utilizing approved course outcome guides and accurate syllabi. Prepare instructional materials as necessary. Attend all assigned classes. Uphold the college's values for teaching and learning. Facilitate learning that aligns with students' academic and career aspirations. Address the curricular needs of students at various learning levels. Encourage shared responsibility for a supportive learning environment. Implement effective teaching strategies that promote interaction between students and instructors. Actively involve students in the learning process. Stimulate creative and critical thinking. Assess and grade student progress while systematically evaluating the program using meaningful indicators to ensure relevance, enhance teaching and learning strategies, and achieve defined student learning outcomes for all students, including those from underrepresented backgrounds and first-generation college students. Maintain accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress. Evaluate the achievement of student learning outcomes at the course, program, and institutional levels.

Professional Responsibilities: Collaborate effectively with colleagues and community partners. Interact with students, staff, and administration in a professional manner. Ensure effective communication at all levels of responsibility. Engage in reasonable student contact outside of instruction to address inquiries and resolve course-related issues. Complete required college training sessions.

Part-time faculty are encouraged to participate in professional development and other institutional activities (such as attending department meetings, engaging in committee work, and promoting shared governance).

Compliance: Adhere to published College Policies and Procedures. Maintain a safe learning and working environment by following all laws, policies, and procedures established by the College and through state and federal oversight (such as OSHA and Title IX). Ensure that students are trained in good safety practices and make reasonable efforts to ensure compliance.

Additional Duties: Utilize media aids, library resources, and other tools as applicable.

SUPERVISION:

No supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Instructor Qualifications:

•Master's degree (MS, MA) in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics,

OR

•Master's degree in Mathematics Education or Master's degree in Teaching (e.g., MST, MAT) with an emphasis in mathematics;

AND Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics;

AND 18 quarter hours (12 semester hours) in graduate-level mathematics,

OR

•Master's degree in a field related to mathematics; AND 27 quarter hours (18 semester hours) in graduate-level mathematics.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Light physical exertion with occasional, moderate lifting, bending, stooping, and pulling.
  • Ability to carry equipment and tools of moderate weight, using arms and hands.
  • Mobility to move between offices, classrooms, and floors.
  • Ability to hear conversational voices and effectively communicate responses.
  • Visual acuity to read and evaluate student work and maintain various types of records.
  • Assignment may include teaching at all College locations and may involve fieldwork conducted at various organizations. Travel between College sites and other locations may be required as necessary.
  • Periodic travel and overnight stays outside of the local area may be required for meetings, professional development, and other purposes.

  • Faculty positions are represented by the collective bargaining agreement between the American Federation of Teachers and Oregon Coast Community College.
  • Part-time faculty have term-to-term appointments. New part-time faculty will be evaluated during their first term of employment.
