Role Overview: The Procurement Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the profitable acquisition and timely delivery of products within designated categories. Collaborating closely with the Vice President of Procurement and Senior Buyers, this position aims to meet the company's strategic objectives. The Specialist will manage supply chain and inventory for actively promoted categories while adhering to established company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procure products to align with anticipated demand.
- Negotiate optimal product costs, ensuring quality and service standards are met.
- Comply with and promote understanding of company policies and procedures.
- Work towards achieving inventory turnover goals while maintaining service levels and minimizing excess.
- Collaborate with various departments to fulfill job responsibilities effectively.
- Establish and nurture strong relationships with vendors, store operations, and distribution center personnel.
- Analyze acquisition costs to ensure purchases are made at competitive prices without compromising quality.
- Evaluate current inventory and market trends to make informed recommendations to the merchandising team.
- Conduct post-promotional analyses to assess the effectiveness of promotions and identify areas for improvement.
- Address and resolve inventory discrepancies at the store level.
- Review daily and weekly reports to monitor key performance indicators and adjust strategies as necessary.
- Visit stores periodically to gather feedback and assess program implementation.
- Oversee Accounts Payable variance processes to ensure accurate invoicing.
- Resolve billing inquiries by investigating discrepancies and providing appropriate solutions.
- Maintain comprehensive department records and files.
- Coordinate with Warehouse Operations to ensure efficient product flow.
- Utilize remote access for procurement activities when required.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Purchasing or Vendor Management, preferably in retail grocery, candy, or beverage sectors.
- Experience in Marketing or Logistics is advantageous, along with a solid understanding of store operations and merchandising practices.
- Strong knowledge of grocery procurement, logistics, inventory management, and financial practices.
- Exceptional organizational and analytical skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Effective planning and organizational abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to foster effective business relationships.
- Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
- Able to maintain focus amidst frequent interruptions.
