Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Firmware Engineer to join our Research and Development Team in Herndon, VA. As part of our R&D division, you will work on small teams to develop, verify, and upgrade the firmware in Fibertek's electro-optical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain firmware for electro-optical systems, utilizing expertise in VHDL and experience with Xilinx and/or Microchip FPGAs.
  • Collaborate with hardware designers to ensure seamless integration and functionality.
  • Design and develop test benches and simulations to exercise the design and verify compliance with requirements.
  • Interface with lab instruments (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, etc.) to troubleshoot and optimize firmware performance.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality code for microcontrollers and FPGA embedded CPU cores.
  • Design and implement GUI-based test software to exercise firmware.

Bonus Areas of Expertise

  • Developing firmware for Hi-Rel/Space programs.
  • Signal processing and analysis.
  • Experience with interfaces such as Spacewire, Gigabit Ethernet, or Aurora.
  • Using IP cores and developing code for FPGA embedded CPU cores.
  • Developing code for microcontrollers and designing GUI-based test software.
