SAIC is in search of a Safety Systems Engineer to contribute to battery integration initiatives for Expeditionary Energy Systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Developing System Qualification Test Plans, Performance Test Plans, Safety/Hazard Characterization Test Plans, Procedures, and Reports.
  • Overseeing or executing tests at designated locations and vendor sites.
  • Conducting Field Integration and Operational Check-out through Initial Operating Capability, along with performing periodic Field Maintenance on large battery systems.
  • Executing Reliability Analyses and Safety Engineering processes on various systems.
Qualifications

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND CLEARANCE:
  • Bachelor's degree with eight (8) years of relevant experience; master's degree with six (6) years; or PhD with three (3) years of experience.
  • Proven experience in safety assessments, including Hazard Analyses, FMEA's, Fault Tree Analyses, and Root Cause Failure Analyses.
  • Experience collaborating with military personnel across various ranks, including enlisted and officers, in roles as a DoD civilian, military, or contractor.
  • Background in test and evaluation support, requirements validation and verification, project planning, along with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interim secret clearance is required to commence, with the potential to obtain a Secret Clearance; SAIC will facilitate the clearance process.
  • US Citizenship is mandatory.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Ability to articulate technical terms and concepts effectively with Integrated Product Team (IPT) members.
  • Experience with Navy manned and unmanned underwater systems.
  • Comprehension of systems engineering principles related to energy storage devices such as batteries and fuel cells.
  • Knowledge of energy storage and power systems.
  • Familiarity with military (Navy, Marine Corps) and NASA vehicles.
  • Understanding of low voltage (24 VDC) to high voltage (VDC) systems.
  • Experience with small (< 2 kWh) to large (> 1000 kWh) systems.
  • Capability to specify and integrate associated power conversion systems.
  • Working knowledge of Military and NASA design and safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with Industry Standards for design and safety.
  • Experience in developing Systems Requirements Specifications and decomposing them into derived requirements and subsystem specifications.
  • Conducting Safety Assessments, including Hazard Analyses, FMEA's, Fault Tree Analyses, and Root Cause Failure Analyses.
