Safety Systems Engineer

SAIC is looking for a Systems Safety Engineer to contribute to battery integration initiatives for Expeditionary Energy Systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Developing System Qualification Test Plans, Performance Test Plans, Safety/Hazard Characterization Test Plans, Procedures, and Reports.
- Overseeing or conducting tests at various locations and vendor sites.
- Executing Field Integration and Operational Check-out through Initial Operating Capability, along with periodic Field Maintenance on large battery systems.
- Carrying out Reliability Analyses and Safety Engineering processes on various systems.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND CLEARANCE:
- Bachelor's degree with eight (8) years of relevant experience; master's degree with six (6) years; or PhD with three (3) years of experience.
- Proficiency in safety assessments including Hazard Analyses, FMEA's, Fault Tree Analyses, and Root Cause Failure Analyses.
- Experience collaborating with military personnel across different ranks, whether as a DoD civilian, military, or contractor.
- Background in test and evaluation support, requirements validation and verification, project planning, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Interim secret clearance is required to start, with the capability to obtain a Secret Clearance; SAIC will facilitate the clearance process.
- US Citizenship is mandatory.
- Ability to articulate technical terms and concepts with various Integrated Product Team (IPT) members.
- Experience with Navy manned and unmanned underwater systems.
- Knowledge of system engineering principles as they relate to energy storage devices such as batteries and fuel cells.
- Understanding of energy storage and power systems.
- Familiarity with military (Navy, Marine Corps) and NASA vehicles.
- Experience with low voltage (24 VDC) to high voltage (VDC) systems.
- Knowledge of small (< 2 kWh) to large (> 1000 kWh) systems.
- Ability to specify and integrate associated power conversion systems.
- Working knowledge of Military and NASA design and safety requirements.
- Familiarity with Industry Standards for design and safety.
- Experience in Systems Requirements Specifications and decomposing them into derived requirements and subsystem specifications.
- Conducting Safety Assessments including Hazard Analyses, FMEA's, Fault Tree Analyses, and Root Cause Failure Analyses.
Covid Policy: SAIC does not mandate COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters; however, customer site vaccination requirements must be adhered to when work is performed at a customer site.
