Position Overview:

The individual will also capture medication utilization data, perform complex sterile compounding, and possess knowledge of federal 340B program requirements to optimize procurement strategies while adhering to regulatory standards. Additionally, the role includes conducting patient medication history interviews and maintaining electronic health record documentation. The incumbent must demonstrate sound judgment and developed clinical skills to support the patient's care plan based on their diagnosis. Compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures is essential to ensure privacy and safety. The individual will also serve as the primary trainer and competency administrator for various tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

Pharmaceutical Services:

  • Facilitates pharmaceutical services including medication preparation, distribution, inventory management, quality assurance, and accurate documentation in accordance with established policies.
  • Handles billing, pricing, and record-keeping necessary to meet regulatory standards.
  • Maintains comprehensive records of medication distribution and collaborates with suppliers for drug requisition or returns.
  • Accurately interprets and dispenses prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Mentors colleagues and fosters a supportive educational environment.
  • Addresses technical issues related to automated dispensing systems and pharmacy databases critical for operational efficiency.
  • Conducts final medication checks in compliance with CA BOP regulations.
  • May assist with clinical trial insurance verification and authorization processes.
  • Obtains prior authorization for medical and pharmacy services.
  • Reviews electronic medical records regularly to ensure coding accuracy and educates staff on correct coding practices.
  • Provides financial counseling to patients regarding insurance benefits and treatment costs.
  • Assists patients in accessing financial aid programs for medications and treatments.

Clerical Duties:

  • Performs clerical tasks such as answering inquiries, updating patient information, and managing electronic health records.
  • Ensures accurate documentation related to patient care in medical and departmental records.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and updates safety manuals as needed.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment in compliance with health regulations.
  • Safeguards patient information by adhering to privacy protocols.

Qualifications:

Education:
Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program is required.

Certification:
Registered Pharmacy Technician (PHRMTECHR) or Certified Pharmacy Technician (PHARMC) is necessary.

Experience:
A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience is preferred.

Skills:
Proficiency in medical terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, and understanding of pharmacy regulations is essential. Strong communication skills, time management, and organizational abilities are required to effectively manage tasks in a dynamic environment.
