Role Summary:
The Clinical Coordinator for Wound Care plays a vital role in assessing, planning, and implementing care strategies tailored to the needs of patients with wound care requirements. This position encompasses clinical responsibilities, including interventions as directed by physicians and educating patients on effective wound management practices. Additionally, the role may involve administering hyperbaric oxygen therapy when indicated.
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess an Associate's Degree and have a minimum of three years of relevant experience, particularly in wound care or home care settings. A valid Connecticut State RN license and BLS certification are mandatory.
Work Schedule:
This is a per diem position with shifts scheduled Monday through Friday, typically spanning 8 hours between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer therapeutic modalities with a thorough understanding of the underlying medical conditions and indications for treatment. Ensure appropriate actions are taken if contraindications or adverse effects arise.
- Conduct patient assessments, including wound measurements and evaluations, and develop individualized wound management plans. Provide clear instructions to patients regarding their treatment and encourage questions to confirm understanding.
- Maintain detailed documentation of patient interactions, including wound care visit records, diagnostic assessments, and billing information.
- Perform tests in accordance with departmental protocols, ensuring timely and accurate documentation of results.
- Safely administer hyperbaric oxygen therapy, ensuring compliance with infection control standards and proper equipment handling.
- Manage supplies and equipment effectively, maintaining a sterile and safe environment for wound care procedures.
- Educate nursing staff, medical personnel, patients, and their families on wound care practices based on scientific evidence and clinical experience.
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the department, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
Additional Information:
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification as a Wound Care Specialist (CWS) or Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse (WOCN) is highly desirable. Experience in hyperbaric medicine and certification as a Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) or Certified Hyperbaric RN (CHRN) is also preferred. Candidates must obtain CHT or CWCA certification within specified timeframes following hire.
Physical Requirements:
This role requires significant manual dexterity and the ability to exert up to 50 lbs of force. The working environment may involve exposure to various physical elements, including noise and odors.
