Description

Under the guidance of the Aquatic Supervisor within the Parks and Recreation Department, this role is designed to enhance the oversight and quality of instruction provided to participants in aquatic programs.

Programming Responsibilities:

This position entails welcoming and supervising patrons, offering support and feedback to swim lesson instructors and aides, lifeguards, and site supervisors. Responsibilities also include managing facility operations, maintaining records, coordinating reservations for special groups, overseeing daytime fitness classes, and facilitating staff training and pool management.

This is a year-round part-time role, with a maximum of 29 hours per week. Shifts may include early mornings, mid-days, evenings, and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver outstanding customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engage with others in a professional manner that fosters open communication.
  • Contribute to a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity and inclusion.
  • Participate in citywide training aimed at enhancing skills in collaboration, communication, leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving.
  • Provide exceptional service to community members, business owners, vendors, and visitors.

General Recreation Programming:

Assist in the scheduling, execution, and supervision of aquatic programs and activities that offer high-quality leisure opportunities for all community segments. Propose, design, and implement new initiatives and events.
  • Oversee and execute assigned programs.
  • Assess program effectiveness and service quality to ensure objectives are achieved.
  • Implement modifications to enhance service quality and experiences.
  • Act in various roles to support aquatic programs, including site supervisor, lifeguard, and swim instructor as necessary.
  • Collaborate with department staff, city personnel, schools, and other organizations to create innovative partnerships and recreational programs.
  • Manage inventory and maintain supplies and equipment for recreation programs.
Respond to public inquiries and communicate departmental procedures, programs, and relevant information accurately and professionally.
  • Ensure effective promotion and publicity of program information.
  • Make timely operational decisions regarding programs (e.g., cancellations, class size adjustments).
  • Address complaints and inquiries courteously and professionally.
Administrative Duties:

Under the direction of the recreation supervisor, maintain data for various reports and documentation to ensure quality-driven programs and services.

Programs/Staff:
  • Collect and organize data from programs, researching trends and opportunities.
  • Conduct staff orientation, training, and performance evaluations based on established policies.
  • Collaborate with the Recreation Supervisor to engage local businesses for sponsorship opportunities or donations.
  • Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and supervision of temporary staff.
Budget Management:
  • Maintain necessary records and reports to track budget status.
Assist with additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Availability for early mornings, evenings, and daytime weekend hours.
  • Supervisory experience with strong leadership qualities.
  • Experience as a lifeguard.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or ability to obtain certification within 60 days of hire.
  • Proficiency in technology and computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite, recreation software).
Additional Certifications (Preferred):
  • Lifeguard Instructor Certification.
  • Water Safety Instructor.
  • Aqua Fitness Instructor.
Seasonal, temporary, and non-regular employees are not eligible for benefits.
