Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Library Assistant to join our team at Midland College. As a Library Assistant, you will provide first-level research and circulation assistance to patrons, demonstrating how to access and utilize library resources, and providing general computer assistance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide first-level research and circulation assistance to patrons
  • Demonstrate how to access and utilize library resources
  • Provide general computer assistance
  • Assist with testing and tutoring services
  • Collect usage and interaction data for trend tracking and library reporting
  • Refer patrons to other LRC staff and Midland College departments when appropriate
  • Maintain and troubleshoot computers, printers, and other office equipment
  • Maintain an orderly environment, including reshelving books and spot cleaning
  • Monitor supply levels and request new stock in sufficient time for resupply
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Customer service experience
  • Good communication skills in verbal, digital, and written form
  • Knowledge of general office equipment, including computers and printers
  • Knowledge of software programs, including the Microsoft Office Suite and web browsers
  • General Internet experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior library job experience
  • Knowledge of the research process
  • Proficiency with common library tools
  • Computer lab experience
  • Tutoring experience
  • Proctoring experience
  • Proficiency with the Canvas LMS
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms
Working Conditions

This position requires working evenings and weekends. The person in this position needs to move to other locations on campus occasionally and must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
