Role Overview
As a WebKit Performance Engineer, your primary focus will be on identifying opportunities to enhance WebKit's performance in terms of time efficiency, memory usage, and power consumption. You will also play a crucial role in diagnosing performance challenges, assisting in pinpointing and rectifying recent performance regressions, and mentoring others in performance optimization strategies. Key responsibilities include:
- Investigating instances of suboptimal performance in WebKit-based applications
- Identifying performance bottlenecks and critical areas within the WebKit engine
- Establishing and defending performance benchmarks for essential web technologies
- Collaborating across teams at Apple to foster improvements in core frameworks
- Engaging with developers involved in the Open Source WebKit project
Minimum Qualifications

- Proven experience in performance analysis and optimization
- In-depth understanding of data structures and algorithms
- Familiarity with pointers, memory management, threading, and processes
- Strong debugging, critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills

Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent education or work experience.
Additional Requirements
- Engineers often build successful careers on the WebKit team without prior experience in web browsers. Some skills that can provide an effective advantage include:
- Experience with debugging and profiling tools
- Proficiency in C, C++, and Objective-C
- Familiarity with web technologies (HTML, CSS, DOM, JavaScript, SVG)
- Experience with UIKit and AppKit
- Knowledge of systems programming and inter-process communication
Compensation & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one component of our total compensation package and is determined within a specified range. This allows for growth as you develop within your role. The base pay range for this position is between $115,731 and $204,000 annually, with your base pay influenced by your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become shareholders through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards and can purchase Apple stock at a discount through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Additional benefits include:
