Interlocal Speech and Language Specialist

Overview:
The Speech and Language Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing communication abilities to support the personal, social, and cognitive growth of students. This position requires close collaboration with educational staff and administration across various districts to address the unique needs and capabilities of each student.
Reporting Structure:
Reports to the Director, Assistant Director, and Principal as per the established agreement.
Compensation:
Salary is determined according to the established agreement.
Work Location:
Specific caseload assignments will be determined upon hiring and may involve multiple school districts.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Master's degree from an accredited institution.
- Current Kansas Speech Pathologist License on file.
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Basic computer literacy and proficiency in required reporting systems.
- Facilitate the development of speech and language skills to promote the personal, social, and intellectual growth of students.
- Create a supportive learning environment tailored to the individual needs of students.
- Ensure compliance with all interlocal guidelines in all activities.
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including community members.
- Collaborate with community organizations to enhance student support.
- Operate necessary equipment competently.
- Adapt to changes positively and undertake additional tasks as assigned.
- Promote the value of education and support the interlocal's mission and objectives.
- Complete all required documentation promptly as mandated by law.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Occasional physical effort may be required to move or lift heavy materials.
- Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching may be necessary.
- Willingness to travel extensively and possess a valid driver's license.
- Ability to work in noisy and crowded settings.
- Assist in the early identification and prevention of educational challenges.
- Monitor student progress and make informed educational decisions.
- Conduct screenings and evaluations for speech, language, and hearing to assess the need for services.
- Participate in comprehensive evaluations and the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Consult with parents, educators, and administrators regarding student needs and available services.
- Support teachers in modifying curriculum and implementing effective classroom strategies.
- Refer students and families to appropriate community resources.
- Collaborate with agencies serving students and their families.
- Provide therapy and follow-up based on student IEPs.
- Encourage effective communication and provide constructive feedback to motivate students.
- Recognize and address the diverse needs of students.
- Set high expectations for student performance and behavior.
- Foster positive relationships with colleagues and students.
- Maintain a conducive learning environment through effective classroom management.
- Plan and implement transitional programs related to speech and language development.
- Support students in building self-esteem and social skills to manage disabilities.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records and submit reports in a timely manner.
- Manage inventory of materials and supplies effectively.
- Supervise and mentor assigned staff members.
- Engage in public awareness initiatives to promote understanding of exceptional children's needs.
- Stay informed about new developments and innovative practices in the field.
- Ensure adherence to interlocal policies during all activities.
- Obtain necessary approvals for special activities and expenditures.
- Comply with health and safety policies, including Blood-borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Participate in third-party reimbursement initiatives.
- Availability for Extended School Year work may be required.
- Adapt positively to changes in assigned responsibilities.
