This key growth strategy for our Wealth Management business unit requires a skilled Relationship Advisor to serve as a trusted advisor and technical expert for high net worth clients.
Job Description SummaryThe Relationship Advisor, Wealth Management role is responsible for managing individual and family wealth management client relationships while delivering exceptional service. This involves collaborating with the service team and Northern Trust resources to ensure timely delivery of high-quality account service, proactive advice, issue resolution, effective communication of client needs, and development of overall advisory relationships.
Key Responsibilities- Manage assigned account base of wealth management clients by working with clients and their professional advisors to develop a thorough understanding of their needs and goals.
- Guide client conversations for goals-driven wealth management and holistic advice, providing proactive advice on Northern Trust's products and services, emerging issues, regulatory changes, and appropriate actions.
- Maintain a working knowledge of various Northern Trust resources and utilize knowledge, experience, and resources to identify opportunities for relationship enhancement.
- Exhibit excellent time management skills, focusing on client service with responsiveness, diplomacy, and tact, and proactive client contact through written and verbal communication.
- Exhibit knowledge of Advisory Practice services, including estate and financial planning, capital markets, banking products, asset management, and prudent investment principles.
- Understand and comply with internal policies, processes, and procedures to effect prudent risk management and judgment, recognizing fiduciary risk issues and seeking appropriate resolution.
- Cultivate relationships with referral sources and centers of influence to build the business, identifying and developing new business opportunities.
- Teach and mentor less experienced partners.
- Travel to meet with clients as necessary, considering revenue, new business opportunities, or servicing requirements.
- Seek continued development of fiduciary and advisory skills through training and experience.
- Strong relationship building skills.
- Ability to identify opportunities to grow and develop client relationships.
- Knowledge of financial products and services, usually acquired through related work experience, is required to manage client accounts.
- Technical knowledge of investments, tax, legal, and operations, usually acquired through formal education or related experience, is required to service clients.
- Some knowledge of fiduciary standards, principles, and applicable laws and regulations, usually acquired through training, seminars, or law school, is required to administer accounts.
- Skills in negotiating, problem-solving, delegating, leadership, and sales are necessary to service the client relationship.
- Requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline and basic knowledge of related job disciplines.
- Ability to explain difficult or sensitive information and work to build consensus.
- A College or University degree and/or relevant proven work experience is preferred.
- Minimum 7 years' experience in relationship management, personal trust, investment management, or related fields is required.
