Job SummaryThe Machine Shop Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our machine shop, ensuring efficiency, safety, and quality in our production processes. This role will involve managing a team of machinists, providing guidance and training, and solving production challenges to meet or exceed production targets and quotas.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership and Planning: Coach and supervise a team of machinists, provide guidance and training, and solve production challenges to ensure smooth flow of work.
- Communication: Communicate issues and successes within the Machine Shop, ensure production and on-time-delivery targets are known, and work with other departments for best collaboration.
- Documentation: Complete training logs and other required paperwork accurately, document any issues, defects, or deviations from standard procedures, and complete administrative tasks such as timekeeping and record-keeping.
- Product Knowledge: Stay up-to-date on the features and benefits of Machine Shop operations and product lines, generate CNC programs and methods using Mastercam software, and participate in process improvement initiatives.
- Training and Development: Promote continuous improvement and development, ensure team attends monthly EHS training, and provide opportunities for growth and advancement.
- Quality Control: Implement and enforce quality control processes, conduct regular inspections, and address any deviations from standards.
- Equipment Maintenance: Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure machines are maintained and serviced regularly, communicate equipment issues to minimize backlog, and ensure all safety guidelines are met.
- Associate's degree in manufacturing or industrial engineering or equivalent, preferred.
- 4 – 7 years' experience in manufacturing supervisor/lead role, preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years' operating equipment within a machine shop including CNC milling, turning machines, and conventional lathes and mills.
- Experience with recent supervisory roles within a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and understand the bill of materials and work order instructions, blueprints, or technical drawings.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.
- Demonstrated time management skills, strategic thinking, and adaptability.
- Proficient in G and M codes, SolidWorks, and Mastercam.
- Ability to lift up to 35lbs.
