Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at Morrow County Hospital. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in providing accurate and timely laboratory results to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine tests in the medical laboratory to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
  • Interpret physician's orders and secure a requisition before performing test.
  • Obtain the correct amount and type of specimen.
  • Draw blood from patient's finger, ear lobe, or vein, observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, under supervision of medical technologist.
  • Perform blood counts.
  • Conduct blood tests for transfusion purposes.
  • Complete appropriate routing, handling, and processing of various medical specimens.
  • Perform tests in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Inform physicians and/or nursing staff of lab results.
  • Document all requests and results of lab work accurately.
  • Recognize abnormalities and notify physician immediately.
  • Respond to STAT orders immediately, reporting the results within the specified time.
  • Perform daily quality control and cleaning procedures per guidelines.
  • Order and stock supplies as needed.
  • Perform necessary preventive maintenance on equipment and report any malfunctions immediately to the appropriate person.
Requirements
  • Registered Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Technologist with ASCP, AMT, or other accrediting agency.
  • Associate or Bachelor Degree required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Basic PC skills preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
