Electrical Design Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Design Engineer to join our team at Planate Management Group. As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting post-award projects under the Planning Design and Construction Branch of the Facilities and Engineering and Acquisition Division.

The successful candidate will oversee the design-build and design-bid-build electrical projects of varying complexity, including the construction of a 27 MW electrical power plant, diesel generators, fuel farm, storage tanks, and additional support facilities.

Responsibilities:
  1. Apply seasoned professional electrical engineering and construction knowledge to ensure contract quality standards are met.
  2. Implement and enforce all applicable electrical engineering codes, including National Electric Code (NEC), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), Unified Facilities Criteria (UFCs), Facilities Criteria (FCs), Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGSs), and the Whole Building Design Guide (WBDG).
  3. Conduct regular visits to project sites to review construction work and ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  4. Attend meetings, including post-award kickoff meetings, weekly QC/Owners Meetings, Partnering Meetings, 3-Phases of Quality Control, and construction conferences.
  5. Support the review and approval of government-approved technical and administrative submittals.
  6. Work closely with the Construction Manager, Design Manager, and Designer of Record.
  7. Interpret design criteria and review project drawings to ensure electrical systems are designed in accordance with the latest standard engineering and construction practices.
  8. Recommend solutions to controversial situations and analyze contract drawings and specifications to determine the extent of the contractor's responsibility under the provisions of the contract.
  9. Provide technical support to the Contracts and/or Construction product line components of the Public Works Department (PWD).
  10. Conduct field investigations during construction to address difficult problems and witness the construction contractor's execution of required equipment and material testing.
Qualifications:
  1. Must hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical Engineering issued by a U.S. state, commonwealth, territory, or the District of Columbia.
  2. Must be a U.S. Passport holder.
  3. Bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering with emphasis in structural engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  4. At least 10 years' experience as a practicing, licensed Electrical Engineer working on Department of Defense or similar government agency construction projects.
  5. Must be National Electric Safety Code (NESC) certified.
