Job Responsibilities and QualificationsThe Cardiac Monitoring RN provides direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act. Employs therapeutic communication in daily interactions. Ensures a safe and therapeutic environment. Identifies nursing challenges as they relate to the unique needs of each patient. Plans individualized and holistic patient care. Recognizes cultural differences and incorporates them into care. Utilizes translation services when necessary. Engages in performance improvement initiatives to ensure continuous quality enhancement. Provides care and coordinates participation that aligns with the hospital's mission statement. The Cardiac Monitoring RN demonstrates proficiency in accurately interpreting arrhythmia strips and performing 12-lead EKGs. Collects and interprets subjective and objective data, including vital signs, EKG monitoring, and lab results. Administers medications, including non-titrating medication drips, IV therapy (including Central lines, PICC lines, and blood products) accurately. Cares for adults (18 – 79 years) and elderly patients (80+ years).
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Assessing, planning, and evaluating patient care needs.
- Executing physician orders.
- Administering prescribed medications, changing dressings, cleaning wounds, and monitoring vital signs.
- Acting as the primary coordinator for all disciplines to ensure well-coordinated patient care.
- Educating patients and their families.
- Assessing and coordinating discharge planning needs with the healthcare team.
- Providing age and culturally appropriate care.
- Mentoring and orienting new staff members.
- Accurately interpreting arrhythmia strips.
- Performing 12-lead EKGs accurately.
- Following Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
- Ensuring a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff by identifying, correcting, and reporting health and safety hazards.
- Current nursing licensure in an approved compact state.
- ACLS Certification required. New hires have up to 6 months from their hire date to obtain ACLS. Employees transferring from a position that did not require ACLS have up to 6 months from the date of transfer to obtain ACLS. New graduate employees have up to 12 months from their hire or transfer date to obtain ACLS.
- Current certification as a BLS Healthcare Provider. New hires have up to 90 days from their hire date to obtain BLS for healthcare providers.
- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Strong customer service skills, including effective listening abilities.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- An extended orientation is available for applicants not meeting the job experience requirement.
- Basic computer skills.
