Summary of Position
The Village of Caledonia Fire Department is actively seeking committed and skilled individuals to join our team as full-time Emergency Services Specialists. Our department operates as an all-encompassing career service, delivering essential fire and medical assistance to the community. With a dedicated staff, we respond to thousands of emergency calls each year, ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct fire suppression and emergency medical services.
- Perform inspections and maintenance on fire department vehicles and equipment.
- Provide advanced emergency medical care as part of a medical response team.
- Document incidents and maintain accurate records under the guidance of supervisory personnel.
- Engage in regular training sessions and educational programs.
- Carry out fire inspections across various facilities within the jurisdiction.
- Operate fire apparatus and equipment as required.
- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of the fire station and all equipment.
- Deliver educational presentations on fire safety and emergency preparedness to the public.
Applicants must demonstrate the following qualifications:
(a) Valid Driver's License,
(b) High School Diploma or equivalent,
(c) Valid Paramedic Certification within six months of hire. Current students are encouraged to apply.
(d) Certification as Firefighter I and II is required prior to completing an 18-month probationary period.
(e) Current Candidate Physical Ability Test Certification (CPAT) within sixty days of hire.
Additional certifications and training will be considered favorably. Veterans are encouraged to apply. Candidates must successfully complete interviews, medical evaluations, and background checks.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- Understanding of effective communication with team members and the public.
- Ability to follow established protocols and safety guidelines.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and basic arithmetic.
- Familiarity with fire safety regulations and emergency response procedures.
- Organizational skills for report writing and documentation.
- Technical skills related to firefighting and emergency medical services.
Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance: The Village contributes a significant portion of health insurance premiums, along with dental coverage for full-time employees.
Holidays: 10 paid holidays annually.
Vacation:
- 1 week after one year of service.
- Two weeks per year after two years of service.
- Three weeks per year after eight years of service.
- Four weeks per year after thirteen years of service.
- Five weeks per year after twenty years of service.
Life Insurance: Basic term life insurance is provided based on annual salary.
Sick Leave: Accrual of sick leave at a rate of 1 day per month, with a maximum carry-over limit.
