Job Overview

The Classroom Aide is a vital member of our teaching team, responsible for supporting the Lead and Assistant Teachers in coordinating the curriculum and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom.

This role requires a strong understanding of children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate as part of a cohesive teaching team to support the Lead and Assistant Teachers in coordinating the curriculum and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom.
  • Support the team in developing a consistent classroom schedule, including small and large group experiences, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities, and meals.
  • Assist in setting up the program environment (indoor/outdoor) for the activities of the day and maintain a well-designed, safe environment that engages children in activities.
  • Implement lesson plan activities and encourage participation by children, actively engaging in activities, managing cleanliness, maintenance, and availability of classroom materials.
  • Understand and implement Preschool Promise (PSP), Preschool For All (PFA), and the Department of Early Learning and Care (DELC) rules and guidelines in all areas of duties performed.
  • Model behaviors that demonstrate an understanding, acceptance, and welcoming of diversity and inclusion, bringing your own cultural wealth and lived experiences into your work.
  • Ensure smooth daily transitions for children from drop-off to pick-up and provide a classroom environment that is inclusive of all children, regardless of ability or family income.
  • Develop supportive relationships with each child, implementing a balance of child-directed and teacher-directed activities, practicing developmentally appropriate positive guidance and behavior management approaches.
  • Collaborate with the teaching team to plan family engagement events, class field trips, and conferences, and support Lead and Assistant Teachers in the development of weekly activity planning and program activities.
  • Meet with the teaching team weekly to discuss curriculum, resolve problems, and plan program activities, and assist Lead and Assistant Teachers with observations and portfolio development of children.
  • Assist Lead and Assistant Teachers in observing and evaluating children's learning styles and behaviors and determining their readiness for new learning opportunities, and assist in planning and conducting monthly emergency drills.
  • Communicate with Lead Teacher regarding children's health, nutrition, communicable diseases, medications, or injuries, and assist Lead and Assistant Teachers in completion of attendance, health checks, home correspondence, accident/incident reports, referrals, safety inspections, etc.
  • Assist in maintaining a healthy classroom environment, including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children, and ensure that no child will be left alone or unsupervised.
  • Report and correct any unsafe or hazardous working conditions and/or injuries immediately, and collaborate with management staff for the prompt completion of injury investigation, corrective actions, and inspections as required.
  • Accurately document student activities, meals, and rest periods in ProCare daily, and complete all required CACFP training as assigned.
  • Understand and adhere to CAIRO Academy CACFP Policies and Procedures, and maintain confidentiality of all information regarding children and families.
Requirements
  • Enrollment in the Oregon Central Background Registry is a prerequisite for this position and is a requirement to work in any certified childcare center in the state of Oregon.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • A minimum of 20 hours of professional development per program year is required.
