Stephens College is seeking applications for a full-time, 9-month non-tenure track faculty position in Animal Behavior. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the establishment and growth of our emerging Animal Behavior program. We are particularly interested in individuals with expertise in areas such as Applied Animal Behavior, Human-Animal Interactions, Animal Training, Care & Welfare, Conservation & Wildlife Behavior, Biological Basis of Behavior, or Veterinary Behavior.
The ideal candidate will be a collaborative scholar who enhances the teaching, research, and outreach capabilities of our interdisciplinary team, which includes faculty from biology, psychology, and equestrian science.
About Stephens College: A vibrant women's college, we are committed to immersive and experiential learning. The new Animal Behavior program is integral to our strategic vision and capitalizes on our existing equestrian program, a collaborative research initiative for undergraduates, and a campus-wide commitment to the welfare of companion and service animals. This role will involve fostering partnerships with local, regional, and national organizations focused on animal research, welfare, and outreach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver undergraduate courses in animal behavior and psychology.
- Develop and enhance animal-focused programs both on campus and in the community.
- Provide academic advising to undergraduate students.
- Establish and lead a research program involving undergraduate students.
- Contribute to the college and professional community through service.
- Assist in the creation of curricula and programs within the School of Health Sciences.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- PhD in a relevant field with a focus on animal behavior research, and/or a DVM.
- Experience in managing an animal facility.
- Prior teaching experience at the collegiate or university level.
- A record of research achievements suitable for undergraduate involvement.
- Ability to employ innovative and diverse teaching methodologies for a varied student population.
- Strong collaborative and communication skills.
Highly Desired:
- Postdoctoral research experience.
- Experience mentoring undergraduate research students.
- Experience in academic advising for undergraduate students.
