Tourism Economic Development Specialist

Auburn University is seeking a tenure-track assistant professor and Extension specialist to provide statewide leadership in tourism economic development. This role will capitalize on research devoted to coastal, urban, and rural visitor experiences, and the statewide visitor experience.
Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership in tourism economic development and regional economic planning.
- Collaborate with the Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management Director of Community Engagement and Economic Development to identify local and statewide program priority needs for the tourism industry.
- Develop and deliver grant-supported educational programs to improve the performance of the statewide tourism industry.
- Collaborate with regional Extension agents and county Extension coordinators to implement and evaluate programs and activities.
- Participate in and assist Extension priority program teams in developing plans-of-work.
- Design and undertake evidence-based Extension and applied research projects to engage and involve various tourism client groups, stakeholders, and whole communities.
- Establish and maintain a strong, extramurally funded Extension and applied research program.
- Disseminate Extension and research scholarship through journals, digital products, and conference presentations.
- Collaborate with College of Human Sciences and Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management faculty on interdisciplinary community programming.
- Engage Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management students in development and delivery of educational tools and programs.
- Provide service within professional organizations and on committees within the Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management, College of Human Sciences, Alabama Cooperative Extension System, and Auburn University.
The Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management at Auburn University employs 14 full-time faculty and five affiliate faculty. The School is located in the newly constructed Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center.
Requirements- Earned doctorate in Hospitality and Tourism Management, Tourism Economics, Sustainable Tourism Development, Outdoor Recreation, Natural Resources, Economic Development, or a related field.
- Evidence of, or strong promise in, building a record of scholarship, grantsmanship, and multi-disciplinary collaborations.
- Ability to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States.
