Job Overview

The Director of Outpatient Services is responsible for overseeing and integrating service delivery within the outpatient program. This role ensures adherence to professional standards and is tasked with developing and implementing policies and procedures. The Director will also provide services as necessary within their licensure scope and will supervise program staff administratively. A key responsibility is to establish an effective multidisciplinary care system.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:


  1. Supervising LPNs, MHTs, and contracted clinicians, as well as laboratory, x-ray, or pharmacy service providers to ensure compliance with patient care standards and relevant regulations.
  2. Developing a program plan that promotes efficient and effective service delivery.
  3. Fostering strong relationships with community, state, and federal entities.
  4. Implementing programs within budgetary limits.
  5. Recruiting and retaining qualified staff with the necessary skills and knowledge.
  6. Establishing and managing the quality assurance program for outpatient services.
  7. Monitoring and enhancing the quality of services provided.
  8. Improving documentation quality.
  9. Ensuring patient safety and infection control measures are upheld.
  10. Enhancing the quality of contracted services.
  11. Improving community education initiatives.
  12. Tracking daily attendance and census against set goals.
  13. Facilitating staff education and training programs.
  14. Performing additional duties as assigned by the Administrator or CEO.
  15. Executing clinical responsibilities associated with outpatient services within the scope of licensure.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:


  1. Contributing to nursing quality improvement efforts by identifying problems, investigating issues, and monitoring resolutions to enhance patient care and satisfaction.
  2. Participating in both short-term and long-term planning of nursing activities and program evaluations.
  3. Interpreting and facilitating appropriate nursing actions in response to administrative directives and evolving healthcare landscapes.
  4. Coordinating infection control data collection and monitoring within the patient care environment.
  5. Assessing new patients within a specified timeframe of admission.
  6. Providing individualized nursing care as prescribed by physicians.
  7. Managing medication administration, including daily monitoring and storage.
  8. Overseeing the therapeutic environment.
  9. Engaging in interdisciplinary treatment planning.
  10. Delivering specialized treatments and therapies, including individual, group, and family therapies, requiring the expertise of a psychiatric nurse.
  11. Documenting and writing progress notes for individual and group sessions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  12. Organizing and coordinating special programs based on patient needs, including disease prevention and control initiatives.
  13. Staying informed of relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations regarding infection control and employee health standards.
  14. Collaborating with other disciplines and the Medical Director to provide insights for treatment schedule revisions.
  15. Actively participating in a multidisciplinary team to contribute to patient treatment planning.
  16. Assisting in risk management activities to minimize patient, staff, and visitor injuries and financial losses.
  17. Screening patients for appropriateness and obtaining necessary admission orders.
  18. Completing and signing required admission paperwork and documentation in compliance with legal and hospital policies.
