Job Summary

The University of Oklahoma is seeking a skilled Utility Maintenance Mechanic to join its Facilities Management team. As a key member of the Utility Services maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the university's district energy plants, production of heating steam, chilled water, electrical production, and associated distribution throughout the Norman campus.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs of related equipment and systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical systems, including high-voltage equipment.
• Maintain cooling tower operations, including repairing and installing fan motors, gearboxes, valves, screens, and sump pumps.
• Monitor chiller conditions, take readings, and check oil levels and linkages.
• Conduct preventative and scheduled maintenance, inspecting and replacing parts as needed.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical panels, pumps, valves, and piping systems.
• Operate additional equipment, including air compressors, air dryers, air tanks, regulators, filters, and blow-down valves.
• Read gas, electric, and water meters monthly and record data.
• Research and order supplies and machine parts and chemicals as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 24 months of experience in electrical instrumentation repair and mechanical repair of large equipment, such as boilers, diesel engines, generators, or chillers.
• Ability to analyze and troubleshoot systems using AC/DC circuits, including high-voltage equipment.
• Ability to read schematic diagrams and locate components on equipment.
• Ability to use a multi-meter to check volts and test devices.
• Valid driver's license required to drive university vehicles.

Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in a power plant environment with large machinery, exposure to steam, electricity/high voltage, hazardous chemicals, extreme cold and heat, and noise. May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures. May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies.
