About the Role:

Position Overview

Under the supervision of a Radiologist and Supervisor, the Mammography Technologist performs a range of radiographic and mammography procedures at a technical level that does not require constant oversight. This role involves executing various technical tasks that necessitate independent judgment, creativity, and initiative to apply ionizing radiation for diagnostic imaging. The technologist is accountable for specific areas of procedures required, serving patients across all age groups from young adults to the elderly.



Minimum Job Qualifications
  • Licensure or Certifications: Current ARRT certification.
  • Educational Background: High School Diploma or GED. Graduate of an accredited ARRT Program.
  • Experience: Relevant experience preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate all mammographic equipment in accordance with specifications. Ensure adherence to infection control and safety protocols. Maintain a clean and organized work environment. Follow established radiation safety practices, including coning, shielding, and film badge monitoring, in compliance with state and federal regulations. Consistently produce high-quality mammographic images within established guidelines. Manage processors, diagnose processing issues, and take appropriate corrective actions. Maintain patient records in accordance with departmental procedures. Understand the appropriate use of contrast media (venipuncture, injector, consent forms, type, quantity, complications). Assess patients accurately based on the exams ordered, ensuring proper documentation (i.e., verify orders, review previous films, check lab values when necessary, prep, screen for potential pregnancy, gather relevant history, coordinate with Imaging nurse as needed). Provide pertinent patient education related to the exam being conducted and document this in the patient record. Ensure compliance with RIS standards as per departmental protocols (i.e., order, arrival, start, completion, cancellation, record complications, IV infiltrate documentation, drug history, repeats, complaints, and transfers), and CPAC procedures when applicable. Meet productivity benchmarks established by the department.
  • Engage in the training of new staff and students.
  • Attend departmental meetings.
  • Perform non-technical duties as assigned (e.g., stocking rooms, transporting patients, cleaning cassettes).
