Job Summary
The on-site HVAC Technician (Building Service Engineer) will have a consistent work schedule. Reporting to and under the general supervision of the Facilities Operations Manager, the Building Service Engineer (BSE) is responsible for maintenance and repair tasks on various heating, ventilation, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, air conditioning, and water systems essential for daily operations and special events. The incumbent ensures that all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, fire notification, emergency, and elevator systems are fully operational and comply with all applicable code requirements.
Available work schedules:
- Wednesday through Sunday (Monday and Tuesday RDO*), 2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
- Thursday through Monday (Tuesday and Wednesday RDO*), 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.
Key Qualifications
This position requires two years of journey-level experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boiler, heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment systems or an equivalent combination of formal coursework in mechanical/electrical controls technology with hands-on experience. The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment is essential. Experience as an on-site engineer in a performing arts setting with a diverse range of performers and campus departments is preferred. Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) is required, while knowledge of Google Suite, computerized work control systems, building control systems, and PeopleSoft is preferred. The incumbent must successfully complete a pre-placement exam and must possess and/or obtain and maintain a valid California Driver's License for the operation of any vehicle or equipment required for maintenance and operations.
Salary and Benefits
Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and will not exceed $6,459 a month. This is a full-time, non-exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.
This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. Additionally, 15 paid holidays are offered each year. Sonoma State University is also a Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) Employer.
