As a Physical Education Teacher at Uncommon Schools, you will cultivate a passion for an active lifestyle in every student. You will develop students' physical fitness through team building activities, independent exercises, and structured sports and games. You will also help students build healthy habits in mindset and physical activity.

Responsibilities

1. Instruction

  • You will create a safe and interactive environment where students feel empowered to engage in physical activity.
  • You will develop students' physical fitness through team building activities; independent exercises such as stretching, cardio, and calisthenics, and structured sports and games.
  • You will help students build healthy habits in mindset and physical activity.
  • You will teach an engaging and culturally responsive PE curriculum that meets the needs of various types of learners in your class.

2. School Culture

  • You will build positive relationships with students to ensure they feel seen, loved, and heard.
  • You will partner with students' families to ensure appropriate resources are available to support their child's learning needs.
  • You will engage in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions.
  • You will participate in weekly, school-wide meetings to cultivate community, model our core values, and encourage student achievement.
  • You will partner with your grade level team to develop academic goals and practice instructional strategies.

Qualifications

We are looking for a dedicated and passionate Physical Education Teacher who is committed to the mission of Uncommon Schools and our vision for being an anti-racist organization. You should have a demonstrated commitment to supporting students' social emotional and academic development, an enthusiasm for collaborating with internal and external partners in the best interest of students, and a self-directed learner who solicits and implements feedback to improve outcomes and achieve objectives.

Required Experience:

We are looking for a candidate with a demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities, with expertise in high school education, physical education, sports science and management, kinesiology, physical fitness, or participation in collegiate athletics. Prior to the start of employment, you must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and have earned a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher by the time employment begins. You do not need to be certified to be hired; however, if hired you will need to pass state teacher certification tests to meet the MA state requirements.
