We are in search of an experienced Lead Manufacturing Engineer to become a vital member of our innovative team at Schreiber Foods. In this role, you will be instrumental in refining our production methodologies, ensuring the efficient and economical creation of our food products. Your collaboration with diverse teams, including Production Operations, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Reliability Engineering, Controls Engineering, Process Excellence, and Supply Chain, will be crucial in fostering continuous improvement, upholding product quality, and boosting overall production efficacy. Your responsibilities will include equipment enhancement, process capability improvement, step-by-step process refinement, FMEA, risk mitigation, and close teamwork with various departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the manufacturing engineering initiatives for a specific product sub-category by collaborating across the organization and within the engineering framework.
- Play an active role in formulating and executing engineering strategies focused on capability, capacity, and optimization that align with the company's objectives.
- Guide, mentor, and educate manufacturing engineers in mastering manufacturing engineering tools, methodologies, and competencies.
- Assess current manufacturing processes and pinpoint opportunities for enhancements in efficiency, productivity, process capability, risk management, and cost reduction.
- Design and implement enhancements to improve yield, minimize waste, increase throughput, enhance cycle times, alleviate bottlenecks, and streamline operations while strictly adhering to food safety and quality standards.
- Work alongside Process Excellence and Data Science/Analytics teams to utilize data for process optimization.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to transition new products from concept to production, ensuring seamless integration into existing manufacturing processes.
- Partner with Maintenance and Reliability Engineering to guarantee equipment uptime and reliability, as well as to integrate predictive maintenance strategies.
- Lead or assist in the development of new equipment installations or modifications, focusing on maximizing output, minimizing downtime, and reducing operational risks.
- Employ data analysis and statistical techniques to identify bottlenecks, process variability, and areas for improvement in production processes. Implement data-driven solutions to enhance overall efficiency while mitigating operational risks.
- Conduct Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to proactively identify potential failure points, risks, and weaknesses in processes and equipment. Develop strategies to reduce operational risks and enhance process reliability.
- Define and manage manufacturing process control plans. Establish in-process measurement systems and complete GR&R activities to ensure effectiveness.
- Perform process capability studies to forecast manufacturing process trends, enabling us to meet customer specifications and create stability in daily operations.
- Collaboratively troubleshoot manufacturing challenges, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions to avert recurrence.
- Participate in the selection and evaluation of equipment, tools, and materials to ensure optimal performance and cost-effectiveness, with a specific focus on enhancing productivity and minimizing operational risks.
- Assist the Process Excellence Engineering team in championing Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies to drive efficiency gains and enhance overall operational excellence.
- Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and maintain product quality and safety.
- Maintain precise documentation, including process manuals, standard operating procedures, and equipment specifications, with an emphasis on improving documentation processes.
- Work with the leadership team to ensure compliance with Food Safety and Food Quality Plans, in addition to customer requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical, Chemical, or any engineering-related field). A Master's degree is a plus but not mandatory.
- 8+ years of engineering experience.
- Experience in the food industry or a related field is advantageous but not essential.
- A strong understanding of food safety regulations and quality management systems (e.g., HACCP, GMP, FDA) or the ability to learn this area is required.
- Project management experience is beneficial.
- A collaborative approach and excellent communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to travel approximately 10%.
